Thurston - Disembodied PrincessHere is a story that explores how the violent magic theme of “sawing a woman in half” became the most famous magic illusion of all time. The basis of this article can be found in a museum exhibit.  “Do The Spirits Return?” explores the surprising intersections between spiritualism, torture theater, dark arts and early 20th century stage magic as seen in the work of S.A.M. Past National President, Howard Thurston. The exhibition features stunning, never before exhibited original posters, artworks, artifacts, props,  photographs and ephemera drawn from the astounding collection of over 50,000 artifacts amassed by Brooklyn native Rory Feldman. The exhibit is on view until Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Morbid Anatomy Museum in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
